“Our character is basically a composite of our habits. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character.” ―Stephen Covey

I found this method called the Ivy League Method, which talked about following 6 habits religiously everyday.
Its been 21 days since I wrote down 6 habits on a whiteboard and created a streaks column. I am happy to report this works and my requirement of willpower to do these 6 things has become way lesser, its more or less automated. Highly recommended.

1. Workout
2. Hygiene
3. Low Carbs, High Protein
4. Snooker
5. Guitar
6. Meditate

Body Fundamentals:
Regularly hitting the gym hard. Lost 10 pounds.
Vaporiser still helping avoid smoking

Social Fundamentals:
Meeting up with like minded guitarists, bought a new fender with an amp
Playing snooker with my pals.
Light socialising in the gym.

Fashion Fundamentals:

Bought a new phone, a new belt.
2 new T shirts, 2 new jeans.
1 pair of leather shoes.

Books read:
The Charisma Myth

Its been 30 days since i've been following the Ivy League Method.
I am glad to say the habits have solidified.
The will power needed to get up after a fall from the wagon is way less than the kind I needed in the beginning.

Music: Learning the main solo of Sweet Child O mine and the Pentatonic Scale.

Gym: Hitting the gym 5 times a week.

Nutrition: My carb intake mildly increased due to self rationalised "cheat days"

Fashion: Added a new pair of shoes to my wardrobe.

Career: Interviewed with top business schools, resulting in one admit so far.

It's been two months since I last posted. Sorry my d!ckheads I missed y'all.

I have good news.

I got an admit in a top business school this year.

My unavailability has definitely stirred up feelings in the hearts of lots of women I was in touch with.

I'm stacking up 3-4 girls in a day when I get free for a weekend every month.

Aloofness and Purpose is Key.

Music: Regularly practicing solos on my guitar.

Hustle: Studying and working 20 hours a day since 45 days now.

Body: Bought a cycle I use 2 hours to commute on campus everyday

Nutrition: Took a hit as I'm unable to cook food myself, planning to learn induction skills.

Assets bought: A new suit, A cycle, Google Home, 2 more set of top shelf clothes, A pair of new shoes, an amplifier. Planning to save for a new guitar and a motorbike.

Books read: Primarily Business related content.

I would definitely love recommendations on a field of management to pursue, marketing, analytics, supply chain operations, strategy, finance and economics. Any contribution would be priceless.

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on getting accepted to a top notch MBA program! Pursue any business field that interests you, but make sure you go heavy on learning data science / analytics and basic programming if you can. Getting proficient in Excel, SQL, and Python would make you an extremely coveted candidate.

Companies are beginning to make data science and analytic skills mandatory for any well-paying job including jobs that didn't require analytics in the past. For example, marketing is no longer just creativity and feelings. Marketing today is digital marketing, running online advertising campaigns and tracking how customers respond to it via data. To get insights on how to improve marketing campaigns, you must know how to pull and generate the right reports from the sea of data.

Explore what fields you might be interested in by networking with people. Do info interviews with people who have jobs you may be interested in. Ask them questions on the field, day-to-day, how they like it, how they dislike it, etc. You also explore fields you might be interested in by doing internships during your MBA program. These are the best ways to narrow down everything down to a single field and job within that field you're most interested in. Start early once you're in school. Don't wait until you're a semester away from graduating with a master's.

That's an insight advice coming from someone who knows what he's talking. Thank you. I am definitely looking into Data Science as I am a computer science graduate so it makes all the more sense.

If not data science / analytics, anything that has to do with automation & machine learning especially since you have a computer science degree.

We're going to see a ton of jobs destroyed in the next 2 decades. A lot of fluff business jobs will go away so all of the businessmen of the future will have some technical skills to leverage computing AI power to a whole new level. Those computers will be "middle management" and "factory workers", which is why the middle and lower classes are getting decimated. The higher up on the job ladder you are as a creative thinker or logical technician, the further away you're away from the chaos below.

Good luck with everything! I'm also disciplining myself to get a product manager job, build a product portfolio, and up my SMV by losing body fat & building muscle. Gym is going well. Diet, job search, and everything else is much harder for me to lock down with habits. I need to plan and discipline myself more. As we know, it's all about the ups and downs of the journey.

I like your Ivy League method. I'm following something similar by focusing on my top 3 priorities and building a daily streak by "not breaking the chain". I use chains.cc to see the visual chain. Apparently, Jerry Seinfeld is the one who came up with this chain concept when he was determined to make it big. One chain he had was to write jokes everyday.

I'm glad to see how observant you are, and the bit about Jerry is just serendipity. The chain/habit/repetition method which even @mrgoodstuff mentions in another post is the key to excellence, add in some innovation and growth every now and then, I believe its a formula for greatness.

Keep at it, you seem to be focused on your own growth, I'm looking forward to get to read more of your contributions.

Hey Guys!

Hope you are doing well and crushing your Christmas goals early.

It's been 3 months since I posted so I thought I'd post my progress.

Skills:

Guitar: After a couple of months of regular practice I can play the world's best rock solos with ease.

Body language: A million presentations made me at ease talking to large bunch of people and overcome stage fright.

Work out: The area where I'm severely lacking and would be happy to get advice. Currently 6 feet 2 inches, weighing near 300. Gained around 120 pounds cuz neglect.

Finance: Recently invested around 500k of my wealth in a diversified portfolio, spanning mutual funds, startups, real estate, tech and fincorps.

Career: Planning to launch my own startup by the end of two years. Making business plans revolving around a tech security consultancy, low capital investment huge returns according to industry CAGR.

Fashion: Invested in a nice pair of shoes and a suit. Grooming myself regularly. Generally clean shaved.

Any advice welcome. Thank you for being such a great support.

I'll tell you my story of weight loss. You might find some tactics useful. I used to weight 113kg now I'm 75kg. I'm 185cm. My whole diet was build around these assumptions:
1. Consistency and diet is a key. You don't have to work out but it's healthy. On the other side I think you were overdoing exercises. I were training Brazilian ju-jitsu twice a week and that was enough. I didn't even count calories until I was 82kg.
2. I didn't drink any soda only water or tee without sugar. Now any soda or sweetened tee tastes really bad and makes me more thirsty.
3. No sweets -- after some time they too start to taste bad. I started to prefer apples or bananas.
4. I eat lean meets, a lot of vegetables, and a very little carbs mainly in form of apples or bananas sometimes potato or two. I composed my habits like this to get rid of simple carbs (sugar above all) and fat rich food. Also I used vegatables to provide volume to my food i.e. I put some piece of lean meet on my plate and then filled up with vegetables so they will fill up my stomach. I stopped to eat bread at all -- it has a lot of calories and they comes in form of carbs.
5. Drink glass of water 20 minutes before meal to fill you up.
6. Stop eating before you are full and eat slowly because it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to signal your brain that you are full.
8. I put everything I eat on plate. This way I keep track of how much I eat. You may think it is trivial but without this step you will substantially underestimate how much you eat. Try this you will see yourself.
9. I weighted myself every 2-3 days. My weight sometimes stayed at same level for even few weeks but then it will suddenly drop and continue dropping very fast. That is normal though at some point I was scared and started to eat more to stop the process. So don't worry if your weight does not drop for some time but start to worry when it goes up above normal daily fluctuations (for me its 1.5kg)
10. If I cheated and eat some sweets I didn't allow myself to pig out -- just a little bit of cake from time to time (more seldom than once a week).

Be patient its takes time.

Just avoiding eating at the restaurant can help cover 6 of 9 points!

Avoid sugar/salt. (Which restaurant has alot).

Also about exercising: Yes it's needed.

A suggestions about exercise: do it 20minutes to 40minutes everyday!... It can be a simple cardio run.

In the morning, i would go running without food in my body and breakfast only after.

Cardio before food is a good way to burn calories. However, eat light after.

This is very true. To expand, this helps your body become better at burning fat instead of burning glycogen for energy. The real key though, is in ensuring you are training at a low enough heart rate. The best way to do that is to use the 180-YourAge formula. So if you are 30 years old, 180-30 = 150. 150 beats per minute would be your target heart rate. Set your heart rate monitor alarm to keep you from exceeding that number, and going down to 10 below that number so 140-150. Run whatever pace you can to keep you in that range. If you can't run slow enough to stay there, walk when you exceed 150 until it gets down to 140, then start running again until you exceed 150 etc. This keeps you in the optimum fat burning zone to burn the most fat and tune your body to use more fat and less sugar for energy.

"Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt."
- The Art of War

It's been sometime since I've been active.

Big ups to anyone curious enough to put in the effort to scroll through the thread.

I'm back to update about my progress in the journey.

1.Looks:
I've started losing weight by following the advice of some of yall, maintaining my diet with HIIT sets throughout the day. Drinking lots of water helps.

2.Money:
I've finally figured out and started to walk in the direction of building my empire. Attained clarity about my purpose.

It helps to look at situations from a logical, detached, calculative perspective.

Cultivating my passions whilst not becoming overtly invested in them emotionally let me make coherent decisions.

3.Books read:
I've been reading up on a lot of content related to my business, including a lot of programming. Hoping to read more on applications of AI from a tech perspective.

4.Fashion:
Instead of spending on my attire. I invested on home decor, mattresses, pillows et al.

Have a great year ahead, m'dudes.

Hey guys,

Its great to be back here month after month to see my own progress in hindsight along with some valuable suggestions from you all.

Quick Summary:

1. Quit smoking tobacco completely.
2. Huge progress in voice tonality. Slowing down my rate of speech helped.
3. Invested in high end personal grooming products.
4. Finished some intensive training courses for my career.
5. I can finally shred on the guitar - imagine sweet child's solo at 1.25x
6. Improvement in body language and stoic expression.

I realise ive been procrastinating on the fitness front, still around 50 pounds overweight.

Ive shifted this health issue on my topmost priority starting this June.

I'm using this forum to design a fitness regime for myself which I can do.

- Stretching ( 10 minutes )
- HIIT sprint / walk alternation ( 20 minutes )
- 100 x {pushups+crunches+squats} ( 30 minutes )

Current statistics:
Height: 6'1"
Body Weight: 250 pounds
Frame: Broad
Wrist: 7.9"

My startegy is to make the process of getting out of my house to run, extremely streamlined.

Let's see how this experiment turns out.
