Dude, do not throw away the piece of wisdom given here. We talk from experience. Girls do not want to talk. They just prefer talk cause it's easier. Smart men do that too and stat's why we fail with women.

Understand that "going with the flow" is a defensive maneuver and if she's waiting for you to make a move, you'll get nowhere.

Sometimes I really feel...helpless about trying to escalate things (kissing, touching, sex etc.) it is frustrating and sort of a downer. I guess because I haven't much experience in those areas (so things that I am attempting are sort of like going into uncharted territory) don't really know the outcome(s)?

Stop worrying about the touching, kissing and sex until she becomes familiar, comfortable and attracted to you. Work on those first and the rest will come. Pace yourself.
