Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.
You've been "getting ready" for two years.
She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.
Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.
That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?
She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."
She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.
I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.
Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Whales: The Forgotten Minority....piranha45 said:address the politics but skip the whales, so typical
Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.
She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.
Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.
So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.
The words come later. The impression comes first.
I think you'll find that gay whales are the true minority here, yet you ignore their plight completely. What are you, homophobic?piranha45 said:address the politics but skip the whales, so typical
You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.
For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.
Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.
The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.
Those gay sperm whales are the way that they are because they could only score a "6" on HotOrNot.com.manuva said:I think you'll find that gay whales are the true minority here, yet you ignore their plight completely. What are you, homophobic?
In all my journeys here, I have never seen someone with the brains to add an ignore link to a topic.click the link below to ignore [R]eality

Seeing as how the rules of the forum specifically state that threads of a political and/or racist manner are not allowed, and also seeing that the owner of the site rarely locks down any threads himself, just what are you saying is cowardly? Obviously you aren't calling him cowardly since he didn't actually close any threads himself, but no intelligent person would call the people whose jobs it is to enforce the rules cowardly simply for abiding by the terms of the forum that everyone agreed to by registering a username.[R]eality said:To close political and racial threads is cowardly, especially if they're in the anything else section.

It always turns into a fight! ALWAYS..... 100% of the time. If people were mature enough to talk about sh*t w/o flaming maybe it would work, but that sadly isn't the case.Morphiex said:idk why , it was a nice sivil discussion so far ...
Your mistake is thinking this is a democracy in this case. This is still a privately owned website where the person shelling out the cash for the runnings and operation calls all the shots. We could vote till the cows came home but it's really up to him to say what stays and what goes. Although the site "needs" members, i suppose, there's little any of us could do besides petition him and hope he hears us and agrees with our point(s) (which I don't see happening) or boycott the site (which is equally unlikely) until the message is heard. Sorry but that's the reality of the situation. There's one man's ruling and little any of us can do to change things around here.Deus ex Pianoforte said:However, it's not my site so that's not my call. In all fairness though, this site could not exist without members, so we should get some say in what should and should not be open for discussion.
If we put those types of issues up for a vote, I think the auto-censoring would be the first to go. (Like people really don't know what we're saying when we see "f'uck" or "pvssy".)
By the way, anyone who is pissed off about those rules can blame me. Anyone who was around in 2001 and 2002 knows why.diablo said:Seeing as how the rules of the forum specifically state that threads of a political and/or racist manner are not allowed...

Dinner ran three hours. She laughed at everything. You walked her to her car thinking this one's locked in.
Then: nothing. Two texts. No reply. What happened?
You did what most men do on a great date. You filled every silence, answered every question, and left her with nothing to wonder about. No mystery. Nothing to sit with when she got home.
Rule 3 of the "22 Rules" changes the ending: tell her a little, hold back the rest, and let her imagination do the chasing. The ghosting stops too.
