In the tech industry and some other fields, the platform serves as a tool for job hunting. However, I don't find it particularly effective for networking. Sales teams in enterprise software often use it to target key decision-makers, which can be intrusive.

If you're aiming to get your resume directly to a decision-maker within a specific company, having a large network can sometimes enable someone to personally deliver it for you.

In the tech sector, it's commonly used to identify potential candidates for technical roles.

In my opinion, for most other industries, the platform doesn't offer much utility.

Well you probably care about the social media component of it. It’s usefulness at least to me has nothing to do with that, it’s a job finding and emplyeee finding tool. Most people post the contents of their resumes to their profiles.

Plenty of men try to get dates/sex on LinkedIn. I've posted about this occurrence a number of times.

Agree that it is more like Facebook or Instagram. The best performing LinkedIn posts are generally more personal in nature than business in nature.

My ex was in the tech sector and got jobs this way. It worked exactly as you described for her. A must have in her situation. She also had lots of guys hit on her thru it.

I had it during my engineering career and it was pretty much worthless.

Even more worthless for what I do now. So much I deleted it.

I really dislike LinkedIn. I get that it's a way to simply connect for resumes and what not, especially in certain industries like tech. Otherwise though, it's 100% a platform of woke/progressive bs. All the content posted is just more of what infests society and the corporate world these days.

Yup, I’ve been using it for going on like 20 years, well before it tried to become social media. It’s a job finding and candidate finding tool, I consume ZERO of the social stuff and never have.

Granted I’m in a different generation where social just doesn’t hold much water for me. I do like that blogs and forums like this one seem to be resurgent recently, meaning BBS style instead of what passes for content these days…
