You're treating a 1-to-1 population ratio as if it automatically creates a 1-to-1 dating market, and I think you're conflating both variables. A 1-to-1 ratio tells us there are roughly equal numbers of men and women, but it doesn't tell us how attention or interest is distributed. A woman can have dozens of men pursuing her while only a handful are genuinely viable options, while a man may struggle to find even a few women who are genuinely interested in him.

Just to reinforce my point, the data in the link below shows that 57% of male online daters said they weren't getting enough messages, compared with 24% of women. Meanwhile, 30% of women said they received too many messages, compared with only 6% of men.

So your argument doesn't establish that men and women have the same dating-market conditions.

It has nothing to do with ratios, it has to do with who is the chooser and who is the chosen ultimately.

This should be common sense. Mating strategies are about maximizing gene potential of your offspring and women do this by choosing the higher value mate they can attract typically.

I will say with 1/3 men not working and another 1/3 living at home the quality of men can be lacking however, the ratio still favors women by far. Women are just terrible at picking men.

Same with all the surveys where women complain they are always depressed, not happy, etc..

People in general want to form monogamous relationships.. which means the ratio of men to women is important. Most women will not share a guy. only in very rare cases do they. but for the average woman, no... most women are already tired of serial dating (which is a "light' version of sharing)

1) A greater percentage of women are considered attractive than men.
2) Women have better support systems if things go wrong.
