I'm close to your age, and I have bugger all knowledge of rock & pop. I may recognise the names, but in my brain, it's all compressed to a region called "angry white guys yelling sh!t at the microphone" (no disrespect meant, j/k). However, I know a hell lot about swing, blues, soul and certain subgenres of classical music. How old do you think that makes me when I talk to people who are into more recent genres of music (rock included)?

I'd say a definite sign of getting old is losing the drive to be awesome and be curious at what the world is offering to you every minute.

Instead of feeling old in that situation with the 20 y.o chick, I'd take that as an opportunity to teach her about it. Chicks dig older guys because they can teach them stuff like that.

It basically killed the rest of my day.

It wasn't feeling old as so much that I loved the indie spirit of those times, despite the fact that Nirvana 'sold out' they had pretty spotless underground credentials and always pushed lesser known artists. So yeah that is a long way away these days.

I guess Lady Gaga is more the spirit of our times... I wonder what that means, culturally

I've felt old at various times in my life. You reach a new milestione, you adapt, and you move on. I AM old, I'm 50, there's no point in denying it. But like Colossus says, it's all relative. I'm young compared to somebody 70. Just because you're older doesn't mean you can't do certain things. As long as you have your health you should be thankful.

I just realized how f'ing old I really am - I do remember the name Nirvana. Some kind of wacky Buddhist concept right ? OR maybe it was the name of the first caffeine drink in a can, or.....just can't remember.

here is the thing. if I say a 14-16 old year is cute or hot I am a pervert. but all the time I hear women well over the age of 18 all the time talk about guys as young as 14, calling them cute and hot. as a white straight male I have no rights anymore.

I certainly wouldn't recommend having sex with a 14 or 16 year old. But to some extent the fact that they are taboo is simply a result of our culture. In other cultures it would be perfectly okay. So I'm not entirely sure how they decide which age is wrong and which isn't. Besides which, I'm sure not all 16 year olds are at the same maturity level.

By the way, I know a few women whose husbands molested their daughters (aged around 12-14 I think). I think that pretty much shows you do not have to be a high value male to get some woman to marry you.

I'm not fond of the term "feminine shaming", but if I can't appreciate the beauty of a 30 year old woman without being called a pervert, I think that's what's at work here. Too bad I can't appreciate their mothers the same way. I'd like to, it's just not there. Maybe when I'm 70.
