The reason I want a year to do this is because I know that she regrets never having hooked up with me and I'm going to bank on the idea of going away and never seeing each other in order to justify some guilt free play.

Sleep with her by all means but if you get on with her, let her know its gonna be a temporary thing (jesus- never thought id hear myself say that, as normally if its someone youv known for a long time it wont help you get her into bed). Just do not screw her for feelings of revenge, cos that sounds like something id do, but i know id feel totally guilty about it afterwards.
