so i understand all the basics of building muscle but lately (because its summer) i've been going to the gym by myself. I still lift heavy but as I dont go with a friend I generally dont lift AS heavy as I used to.

In any case, I'm wondering if you need to lift with a spotter to really pack on pounds.

OR can I just lift as I have (3 sets of 7) and just EAT.

You might not need a spotter. Do you have a squat/power rack in the gym?

Yes, to get HUGE you need to bench press HEAVY while your spotter mate does a bent over row - on the same bar.

Just ask a stranger to spot you. Most people will be more than happy to help out.

Edit - I haven't worked out with a spot in years. It's quite unnecessary - just learn what you're capable of.

This is exactly what I do and I've never had trouble getting stronger. You don't have to go until failure to get big.
