BMW vs Mercedes

I am debating on weather to get a BMW or mercedes as my next vehicle. Anybody have a preference of one over other? Why?

Mercedes are more reliable. Not sure about service for Mercedes but BMW is notorious for service costs. Everything is tied together and it takes a freaking technician to replace a bulb. This is on the new beemers. The old ones don't have this issue at all.


Anyways, look at everything before you buy this car.

Actually many mercedes are pieces of junk in reliability- it depends on the model. A few years back I was looking into an E-Class and then went online and read all about the transmissions blowing out, etc.. in that model.


I ended up going with an Audi A4 Convertible and have never had a single problem with it (around 46,000 miles on it now). Knock on wood.

Service costs are going to be very high for any german vehicle. Even VW's (also have a Jetta turbo) have high part costs.

Mercedes. It's just much more classy now that everyone and their grandma seems to drive a beemer and they look much better (BMWs turned ugly the last decade). Both have high maintanence costs, you should be looking at Japanese cars if that's a huge concern.

My parents had an E class when I was young and its service was horrible. I've been in a new Mercedes and I must say it's state of the art.

I do not want anything fancy cause I don't have any money. and I do not want to finance anything. I currently have about 2 grand and want to use it to either purchase some used mercedes or BMWs. I already have a deal with some guy for 1800 mercedes C280 1997. I drove the vehicle few days ago and it seems pretty great. I am waiting on my body who is good with vehicles to come check it out for me tomorrow. If things go well, I will get tomorrow, thus if he thinks it is a good deal. Else, I will have to wait to get the BMW 741 which now clocks at 5500.

Don't bother dude. I see it all the time. People always love to buy sh*t they can't afford (to maintain even) and the b*tch about it afterwards. It's someone else's fault. It's the car company for building an expensive to maintain vehicle, its the credit union for the high loan cost, its the employer for not giving enough money, its the people who told about the vehicle and how they didn't warn... etc.

Although more reliable and cheaper to maintain even a Japanese car seems unaffordable.

For that price buy a honda or toyota. If you have very little $ the first repair bill on a German car will kill you.

'not a good idea' is probably a huge understatement. The thing is going to drain your money like no woman could. For 2k I'd look for a small reliable car. Sure, maybe you look like an idiot, but at least it's a better choice if you don't earn that much money. Don't forget insurance and taxes will also be higher for a Merc not to mention fuel consumption.

Dude, he's pretty spot on. Ever hear the phrase don't buy sh*t you can't afford? You can't afford the car. There's more to vehicles than the initial cost. I can't believe I have to tell you this. Have you even driven or owned a car before?

Do you know how much a freaking simple CV joint costs for a vehicle like this? Look up a couple of parts, then you'll also feel like an idiot besides looking like one.

Actually, I do know the cost of CV joint for this vehicle is much LESS than the same CV joint for my Honda accord and civic. To clarify things, I wanted to buy these cars at the stated price so that I maybe able to work on them myself in the event of problems.

Or you can simply buy a car that's not been beaten into the ground, and this means less repairs and less money and time spent just making sure its drivable.

The cars look nice, they might even feel nice but the cost is MASSIVE to keep these things on the road. Buying a newer car means that it will run longer before you repair the damn thing. Unless you want to spend all your time in the garage pumping money and time to keep the car on life support.
