slut defense doesn't mean that you escalated too much, on the contrary, slut defense means that you tried to escalate at all. if you don't run into slut defense at all and didn't get laid, then you simply didn't escalate.
however if you don't run into slut defense but still get laid then it would be either:
1. the girl is an actual slut or drunk/high
2. it's been a while into dating/the relationship/whatever so she doesn't feel the need to put up a defense

Logistics I'd say. I had a 2nd date last night. She got pretty tuned up and I drove home. She told me her address, yet she was all over me.
