"I'm Not Looking for Anything Serious Right Now"

When a woman says it, guys hear a confession. A heads-up. A scheduling conflict.

Here's the translation: I don't feel anything. Right now. With you.

Watch what happens when a man triggers actual attraction. The busy career, the recent breakup, the "not in a place to date" — all of it evaporates instantly. The same woman who was guarding her freedom is suddenly free every night.

The "22 Rules" explain why. When the right switches flip, her timeline rearranges itself around you.

I'm sorry if I have class for admitting a mistake.

Another secret to a healthy relationship.

Better add that one to your bible.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

I am going to keep this extremely bare of a question, before I go deeper into what is on my mind. The only structure I want to give to this discussion at this point, is that I mean Man, as in men. I am well aware all people lie, but I'd like to focus on the reason men lie.

Discuss.
-To save face
-To protect himself
-To protect someones feelings from being hurt
-selfishness (which falls under the first two)

Thanks a lot, TM. Great way to fan the fire I just put out!!!

Please, no more flames or jerks or insults. Or responses to such. There is a nice little thread on the main forum where that is welcomed right now. Thanks.

Yeah the only person to start flaming was Burrito. Iqqi tried to project the blame on me. I was giving her good advice, if she can't see it or doesn't like how I delivered then screw her. Wasting my time.

Dude. Sarcasm.

"She Laughed All Night. Then She Ghosted You. Here's Why."

Dinner ran three hours. She laughed at everything. You walked her to her car thinking this one's locked in.

Then: nothing. Two texts. No reply. What happened?

You did what most men do on a great date. You filled every silence, answered every question, and left her with nothing to wonder about. No mystery. Nothing to sit with when she got home.

Rule 3 of the "22 Rules" changes the ending: tell her a little, hold back the rest, and let her imagination do the chasing. The ghosting stops too.

Theres no shame in needing a helping hand, thus coming to this board for advice, but keeping that mentality that you have towards women will not help improve yourself.
Thank you for your unsolicited (female) advice.

Fine. I'd like to play.

Why do men lie? I know some do because it's purely an ego thing. Some men are so insecure that they lie about the smallest things. I believe it is the "need to impress" motive working here.

Poor fools. They don't realize that eventually they'll be found out.

Great post.

I've gotten some GREAT replies to this thread.

Care to answer the other question I asked later, which is, what do YOU lie about, and WHY... or why not?

Look the simple and general reason why a male will lie is because correctly or incorrectly he believes it will be advantageous to him. If it's intended to be primarily advantageous to someone else then it's generally considered a white lie. If you want to determine why a specific male specifically lied, then it's depends on the situation and the people involved.

Law 32: Play to People's Fantasies
The truth is often avoided because it is ugly and unpleasant. Never appeal to truth and reality unless you are prepared for the anger that comes from disenchantment. Life is so harsh and distressing that people who can manufacture romance or conjure up fantasy are like oases in the desert: Everyone flocks to them. There is great power in tapping into the fantasies of the masses.

This is why men and women lie, but the real question is, do you really want the truth? Can you really handle the truth? Six pages in and you've got all sorts of "whys", but the real question is what would you do with the truth? Truth is often ugly, harsh, blunt and offensive, it doesn't paint you in the best light. The truth is you're not as tall without your high heels, you hair is really a mousey brown, and your boobs naturally sag. Are you a liar for compensating for your natural deficiencies? Is full disclosure really what we all want?

People lie because it's what we expect. The truth may set you free, but most people can't handle that freedom.

“The 22 Rules That Flip the Script With Women… And How You Can Use Them Tonight”

Most guys accidentally kill attraction before they even speak. They assume they need a bigger bank account, a better physique, or smoother lines. They miss the point.

Female desire operates on a specific set of psychological triggers.  Break them, and you're invisible. Follow them, and you become magnetic.

I learned this the hard way. Years of freezing up. Getting friend-zoned. Watching other guys walk away with the girl I wanted. Then I discovered a set of 22 simple rules that rewired my entire approach.

You can't just sit there with a woman and be silent, can you? That feels awkward as hell.

Sexual tension, it's good for you. They'll break it.

My point was, why REVEAL things that you think are none of her business. You're not lying. She can mind her own damn business.

I think I ruined a relationship or two running my mouth too much. I see what you are saying. I just get an awkward feeling when there is too much silence and I start blabbing away.

“The 22 Psychological Triggers That Make Women Chase You… Starting Tonight”

Forget the cash, the cars, and the chiseled jawlines. Female desire operates on a completely different frequency. Primal. Subconscious. Triggers that bypass her logic and hit her on a gut level. Most guys are totally blind to them.

I know because I was one of them. The overthinking. The paralysis. The silent drive home kicking yourself for freezing up. Watching average guys walk away with the girl while you stood there stuck in your own head.

Then I decoded the psychology behind what actually makes women tick. 22 hard rules.  Subtle behavioral shifts that rewired my entire reality. The anxiety evaporated. Women started leaning in. Investing. Chasing.

Law 4: Always Say Less than Necessary
When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control. Even if you are saying something banal, it will seem original if you make it vague, open- ended, and sphinxlike. Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish.

Men don't know why they lie!

Phyzzle, isn't that what you were saying earlier?
Men don't know why OTHER men lie.

I think a man is usually pretty darn good about never being baffled by his own actions. Sometimes he is, but booze is usually involved. Speaking of booze, I'm guessing this guy made up some raunchy stories about what you two did when you were drunk? That would be funny.

Anyways, the first post was vague enough, but people will get irritated when you post something like this:

Then we got on the subject of a guy who told me he used to do drugs, but stopped when he realized it was get hooked, or give it up. Her response was "It is NOT that easy. He probably WANTS to be that guy..."

Which brought it back to the first thing she said.
What does any of this stuff about DRUGS have to do with a "man lying"??? I see no example of any lie there. It just seems like any time you talk about your own life, it devolves into non-sequitors (latin for "it does not follow"). You just start giving off random, unrelated snippets of conversation, or saying that "he totally wanted to make a move on me, but he couldn't because he's my best friend's cousin's brother." Just stuff that might make sense in your head, but doesn't make sense when you say it aloud.

Anyways, if you would like a different point of view on events in your life, tell us the events in your life. Then log out, let us rip it to shreds and tell you what a tool you are, and check in the next day or something. There is no need to respond to every post that was given in a critical tone, with new details, non-sequitor nonsense, or castigations of the negative tone. I see you're trying to avoid being ripped up by not telling us any story. But you're not going to get any (fun or interesting) feedback. "Why do men lie" is a very simple question that has already been answered numerous times.

1. Avoiding Punishment
2. Gaining Attention (probably the case here)
3. Defrauding
4. Just Plain Crazy

Hi Phyzzle fo shizzle.

The GF chiming in has nothing to do with anything, just her take on the general Why Men Lie question.

The question really was in general. Sure, it stems from something - but not a lie a man told ME. A lie I witnessed, that I didn't understand. Which made me just wonder about lies in general.

Seems like everyone has their own take on it, which in itself is interesting, and I've learned a lot.

To be quite honest, this thread was kind of passive aggressive in a way, and I've addressed it head on since then, with the help of this thread to sort my thoughts out, but still the discussion is interesting nonetheless, and I like what Rollo has posted as well.

Post on, if you care. I think that introspection could be had here.

By some, I think it is neccessary. Once again, that was being passive aggressive.

EDIT: Dude, WHAT is your fascination with me getting "ripped to shreds"?

EDIT X2: Also I don't see where I have responded to anything in a negative or critical tone. Thanks.

Interestingly enough (to ME, lol), this was in my MSN news box this morning:

The Endorsement: Self Delusion

"Whoever said honesty is the best policy needed a reality check. A.J. Jacobs on why you should lie to yourself."

Phyzzle, as the article poster on this thread, I can't believe you didn't beat me to the punch with this one.

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.
