The sex thing is key here. After you bang some girls the first time, it's like a switch. They start trying to figure out what exactly they are in your life. If you bang a girl and she's not trying to make things official you can pretty much assume she's not very interested in a relationship or has something else going on.
Generally a man should not preoccupy himself with these things, she must be the first one to try and formalize things for you to have the best chances at a decent relationship.
