I dont think post count should be an indication of reputation either.

The rep system is flawed though because people dont use it properly half the time. If I could make a suggestion it would be to replace reputation with thanks/no thanks system.

Instead Rollo Tomassi succeeded Pook as the top regarded poster on this site (when it comes to the forum's overrall message and direction) and the simpleton and his sycophants can't stand that nor the fact that their god never made number one in reputation points here and so they raid this place and stink it up from time to time in an effort to try and bring back and force us to live in the past with them as well prop their god up and give him the attention and worship he feels he deserves in his thoroughly deluded simpleton mind.

One could argue that the rep points are an attempt to encourage posters to write reputable posts, which will encourage more readers, or traffic, and earn the site owner more money.

They can also be helpful (as on any site that uses them) to gauge the general condition of the board by reading a few posts by hi ranked posters, as more green dots reflect general approval from other posters. It's important to note, however that a plethora of green dots only indicates agreement from several like minded posters, rather than an indication of sound advice.

If you are likely to agree with posters with many rep points, you'll agree with the general advice on the boards, and vice versa.

Just like anything, you can read into them what you'd like.

Or ignore them.

Though I could care less about the silly green bars, I actually like the rep system. You get to see what posts resonate most with people, and its cool that they get to send you a little message. My only criticism of the system is that it focuses too much on the poster and not the content. I'd be more interested in seeing which POSTS got the most reps instead of which USERS got them. Hopefully when I have time I will finish my vBulletin hack that does exactly this.

I'm not sure what happened between Karma and reputation points.

I realized they aren't a representation of who I am as a man. Anyone can gobble up the spittle of other guys and rewrite as their own. If it makes them feel momentarily superior to have a bunch of green under their names, so be it.

I think they're stupid. Remember, I was numero uno here at SoSuave at one time but it was only a mustard fart. It was tangy for a second then forgotten in the breeze.

But I got to thinking that other guys really believe they are their online self and it's a sad psychological state to be in.
