I recently finished an audio book entitled Marriage a history, how love conquered marriage. A lot of people say how bad things are compared to the past but if you indulge in history you will find it has always been in flux. Even more unsettling our morality about what is right and wrong about marriage changes over centuries. A zeitgeist.
Did you know that love had nothing to do with marriage? In fact the author cites many sources from writers and thinkers long ago saying it would be folly on the highest degree. Compare that with all media today which shout the exact opposite. It's only within the last 2 centuries that people started to think maybe love should be involved to love conquers all.
I think this is more of a red pill book for women because by the middle part it begins to highlight women's sufferings and mostly forgets to mention any time a man might have lost out on a marriage. But it also highlights real issues happening now such as career minded women who find themselves out of time to create a family. And the ultra high expectations we put on marriage to solve ALL our emotional, economical, sexual, needs has become more of a luxury compared to a default out of high school like in the breadwinner 50s.
Anyway I found you can digitally rent the audio book for free on hoopladigital. I really liked it and would put it on the same shelf with my robert greene books. Give it a try.
