Back in the 70's (yes back then) I was about 18, living at home and going to college. One weekend when my parents were away, I had some people over. Back then I was smoking pot morning, noon and night. With that came the munchies...in other words this uncontrollable urge to eat. So this one younger (like 15) really hot gal wanted me. There were a couple of times when girls just stared at me. But one of the most "I-need-to-get-a-kick-in-the-balls" times was when I said "Who wants to f*** me?" (as a joke) and this girl spun around, jumped up and down, and said "I do! I do!". I gave her this weird look.

One time I was looking for a movie to rent, and these two girls are moving through the aisle and end up behind me. I'm lost in my thoughts, trying to work through the fast-food fed brain fog, and feeling generally out of it.

I hear one of the girls, probably the alpha, say something behind me. I happen to have a hearing loss, so I didn't catch any of the words. I quickly look behind me and notice the second girl, so I figured the first girl said something to her, and I ignored them.

Then I heard, "Yeah, you! (something, something)" (hearing loss kicks in again). At this point, I should have turned around, said Hi, and explained that i didn't hear them (hearing loss) and asked what they said, continued the convo and go from there.

But I didn't. I was feeling like **** and I didn't pick up on it until I had moved into the other aisle. By then, they had their movie and they were out the door, and I could the alpha woman looking in through the window from outside at me, with a look of exasperation and disbelief.

I don't know exactly what was said, but I think those two were trying to pick me up and were surprised that I didn't pick up on it. My loss. Two girls at once would have made a nice weekend.

Lessons:
1. Be aware of your surroundings at all times; don't be lost in a brain fog or daydream.
2. If food causes brain fog, eat better and get healthy.
3. Even if you have a hearing disability like I do, don't be afraid to respond anyway, explaining that you have a hearing loss and continuing the conversation from there.

I passed up a really nice weekend.

At work years ago. It started when i was home and my brother told me a girl was calling me. I didn't believe it as I never get any girls calling me. Turned out it was a coworker from my section as she got my number through the employee contacts.

Another time weeks later we were talking and she said something. I don't remember what she or i said, but i had something witty and sharp in response.

Now I'm a guy who keeps to myself and just does what is asked in my job and don't talk unless i have to or want to.

After i said what i said though she was surprised saying "Wow you have a sense of humor after all"

Too many to name...

I'm not really an eloquent writer and I have difficulty conveying my thoughts in typed prose but here goes...

I swear. There was this girl from around middle school 8th grade to around high school 11th grade who I had the biggest crush on. She was baaadd. And I know for a fact that she had the biggest crush on me. How do I know? Well...the first time I laid eyes on her, she laid eyes on me. As a matter of fact, she did a triple take. I still remember it vividly to this day. Did I approach her? No. Instead, what we had was an eye contact war for as long as I can remember. Every time we walked past each other, we stared at each others eyes and carried on. I just didn't have the balls to approach.

Listen, during that time frame, Valentine's day was coming up and I decided to get her a valentine's gift. It was a cute, little stuffed puppy. I remember skipping class and trying to tape the stuffed puppy on her locker door, but her friend caught me and told me she'll give it to my crush. I recall being quite nervous the whole day. She got the present but I still didn't approach her. Okay. There was this school newsletter that used to circulate and I opened it and it had a message in it saying 'I love you.' or something to that effect with my initials signed by my crush. Did I approach her then? You guessed correctly.

I don't want to get long-winded so apologies. There's so much more to the story but I think the readers at home catch the gist of it. I still, to this day, hold this as one of my biggest regrets. All I had to do was speak to her or say one word. But I didn't do it. I ended up transferring to another school by 12th grade and I never seen her again.

Of course, there were other girls that were feeling me in high school but I only had the nerve to approach one and that's because she initiated pretty much everything. As a matter of fact, that girl didn't go to my high school. Ha.
