You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.
For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.
Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.
The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.
Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.
The "22 Rules" pushed me to build a life worth talking about. Turns out the fastest way to be interesting to women is to be interested in your own life first.
I am not sure I can answer that question.jophil28 said:So what is the take home message?
Oops, sorry . My question was premature..Demodulate said:I am not sure I can answer that question.
I am angry about everything right now.
I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.
The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.
Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

The reason doing this is so uncomfortable is because it violates the foundation of "trust" in a relationship--our instincts when things go sour is to preserve the relationship and "fix" things through communication, instead of initiating a break to shock their interest level back to life.
Thing is, she's already violated your trust by withdrawing her affection, so in all likelihood, there are issues that would eventually come between you two anyway (unless you've let yourself slip into AFC ways). Some girls just aren't marriage material.
But, if you want to keep her, you have to dump her now. Be honest and say that you feel like she's not making any effort in the relationship, and that you want to part ways out of fairness to both of you. Nothing vindictive, and if she objects, tell her your mind is already made up. Then, go no contact for a week and watch the apologies roll in.
And I bet thousand times over 1000 that had he taken the message I posted that morning and REALLY gone through with it rather than asking her what was going on...Rollo Tomassi said:I would consider it better to NEXT a woman and have her qualify herself back into a man's frame than to continue on ignoring that instinct. I think this should be the default action, because in both the instances where it may or may not be well founded, in doing so you still place yourself into frame ownership. There is no better DHV than to dump a woman.
QFT.Rollo Tomassi said:What I find most interesting in all this is the instinctual perception that something was off balance when she returned from her trip. I think our subconscious picks up on verbal/visual cues and shifts in attitude instinctively. It's like our hind-brain registers these incongruencies and we get suspicious, or we feel like something is just not quite right, but we ignore it or rationalize it away instead of acknowledging it and acting upon it.
You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.
Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.
Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.
Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.
That is kind of telling right there.Demodulate said:I thank everyone for their insight and replies, at this point I am pretty much steeling up my feelings, reconnecting with as many people as I can, and working on taking off those 10lbs I put on over the months..
yep..squirrels said:Was your relationship falling into a boring routine? Were you going to the same places, doing the same things all the time? Maybe staying in way too often to watch Gray's Anatomy instead of getting out and enjoying yourselves, instead of enjoying each other's company in a more high-energy way?
This is so extremely true. Especially if the other women are low quality sluts who can't attract or keep a quality man; out of jealousy, subtle or explicit, they will do all they can to underhandedly sabotage the relationship of one with the LTR and quality man.Colossus said:^^Cosign.
When women get together they have the ability to poison each other's minds. I've seen it happen, it's happened to pas gfs, I know when it HAS happened. If things were otherwise going along smoothly, and she goes off for a girl's weekend and comes back distant, one of two things has happened: she fooled around on you, or her friends got in her head.
Remember the cardinal rule of sosuave: Actions do not lie.
That's a bit harsh, but it's sort of true.ChumpNoMore said:This is so extremely true. She calls you when her car breaks down. When she needs help moving. When some guy she's actually dating treats her badly.
You're the listener. The reliable one. The guy who would treat her so much better, if she'd just open her eyes.
She won't. You trained her to see you as the low-effort option — the friend who requires zero risk and zero investment. Every favor dug the hole deeper.
The "22 Rules" break the pattern. You'll stop auditioning for a role she already cast and become the man she chases instead. It starts with Rule 1.
Its not disharmony, its the pecking order.squirrels said:That's a bit harsh, but it's sort of true.
Women are very sensitive to frame shifts of their friends. A married woman among single women or a single girl among "committed" friends is a disharmony. They will either go out of their way to match state with the outlier or will try to change her state, largely dependent on social situation and relative strength of "frame".
