Well, this is a very interesting observation of body-language indeed. It appears as if these people are closed, in some way, and do not wish to be open. I believe if these people wished to be open, they would unfold their arms, and maybe even face the fronts of their wrists ******ds (a non-verbal signal of openness).

Or they find it to be a very comfortable position.

Ever accomplished something big, and felt the need to stand back, cross your arms, and admire your work?

When reading body language you shouldn't base your opinions on their mood on one specific bodily action.

I feel comfortable with my arms crossed.. Doesn't mean I'm not open to talking, I just feel comfortable because I don't know what else to do with my arms.

I'm making an effort to change that though and do it less..

It is usually a very negative sign, especially if it's your first interaction with this person.

However, I've had women fold their arms around me if I'm not paying them enough attention or if they're in a mood with me over something else. It can mean they're sulking in other words.

My father used to always cross his arms and I guess that's where I got the idea of it being comfortable.

I tried offsetting this by holding my hands at my waist (you know, the "domination" display where there's almost a 90 degree angle in your arm and your elbows point out) but this probably makes it look like you either have some superiority complex/are impatient so I'm not sure if this is a good idea either.

I wish I had the patience to stand still with my arms down by my sides..but it just gets f*ckin annoying after a while you know? Then I start doing stupid sh!t like putting my hands in my pockets which probably looks even worse.

I have started making an effort to cross my arms less often but it still comes pretty natural.
