People say your goal when you go out with her is to make sure she has "fun." Not sure I agree with this. It is good to have fun, but it won't make her think of you as a suitable long term partner, it's more of a one night stand, sex buddy type of thing.

Here is an article on Sosuave that says: "Have a great time and attract women."

Apparently if you want a relationship, you got to get serious.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Omigosh, there's that study about how women find smiling guys unattractive again. That was ONE study that was conducted by showing pictures of some dude to women. He was goofy looking when he smiled, even I thought so.

Anyway, that article had nothing to do with being in a relationship, it's more about first impressions.

If women really don't like men who smile, I really have to wonder how the fvck they view us. We get accused of objectifying women, but if they don't want us to even smile, I can't believe they think of us as persons - just as mysterious, brooding, resource providers who exist mainly to make their girlfriends jealous.

Well it's all about what each man wants. The thinking is, that if you show the woman a good time, she will associate your presence with a positive, fun aura. If you're all serious a straight faced while discussing politics like an old man, she's going to think of you as boring.

I'm exaggerating about the latter, but in my personal experience fun has always worked. Maybe that's just because I'm with young high school girls and that's what they're out for. Never dated anyone over 17 so I could be totally out in left field here.
This, in all of my experiences when I have been having fun with my friends when going out and not even trying to look or start game on anyone, I have almost always had a girl approach me unexpectedly. Obviously it doesn't happen all the time but girls definitely notice. Always have fun instead of that try hard serious look.

I say balance.
Be fun, but don't be her personal circus clown. You aren't there for her entertainment.

I can see how someone could take "be fun" as be her dog doing tricks for treats, which is bad.

Just act like you are with one of the bros, but add in a little sexuality. Gold.
