There's no reason to go on multiple first dates that don't result in either first date sex or eventual sex from a longer term relationships.

I think the main problem is that people try to 'date', i.e. taking someone out to dinner, trying to impress them, blahblah. I'm all for oldskool but in the current dating scene that is just a way for some women to get free food.

Dating is fine as long as you realise it’s a value exchange.
It’s fun in the beginning but at some point women always want more than you are willing to give (money, energy, attention, time, validation etc.) and/or the quality/quantity of bedroom action or whatever else you want from the relationship declines or has increasingly more and more conditions placed on it (choreplay, giftplay, romance play, moving in or marriage demands etc.).
What was relatively low investment for you in the beginning increases over time and the satisfaction you experience declines. Probably the same experience for her as well, just different things.
It’s then a slow death spiral to the inevitable break up, dead bedroom, affair/cheating, increasing feelings of unhappiness/dissatisfaction/boredom; just the length of time this takes to happen can vary. There are exceptions of course but everyone thinks they will be the exception.
