Panels, not grave posts. Not something I would do, but the panels were in place specifically for being black, not for being soldiers, that's the point of the removal.

Anyway, I'm not saying no vets have legitimate gripes, some certainly do. I'm just saying that not all vets are forgotten, or unappreciated. Our city lost a serviceman in Afghanistan several years back and honored him with parades and celebrations. Maybe that's not worth losing his life over, but it would be wrong to say his sacrifice was forgotten.

Your city remembered it's veteran. How does it treat veterns who made it back and need to live, eat, and have a roof over their head today? Have you seen youtube videos out there, or encountered in person, a homeless person that suffered PTSD when he returned back from war, didn't get the long-term supports they needed and ended up forgotten and in the streets?

What your city did to that veteran should be how all veterans are treated. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

She doesn't want you to die.

She wants your "relationship" to continue.

Dudes think in terms of glory and honor and elite status.

Girls think in terms of safety and consistency and stability.

Forcing her to "apologize" would feel to her like your angry that she doesn't want you to die.

Not the best move if you want to maintain the relationship.

Instead, explain to her why you want to do it and try to reassure her that you aren't going to die.

I've always had mixed feelings about this subject. On the one hand, I have great respect for men who fight and die for their country, especially if they are volunteers. On the other hand, it's hard to escape the conclusion that many of them die in vain. Take the example of the solider from your city. His death in Afghanistan was pointless. The war in Afghanistan was won in December of 2001, about three months after 9/11. Taliban was defeated very quickly and with very few U.S. casualties. Basically, the U.S. provided air support and weapons to the Northern Alliance and that was enough to topple the Taliban. The U.S. should have let Northern Alliance take over the entire country and hunt down the remnants of the Taliban. Instead, they decided to occupy Afghanistan and "build democracy". 99% of U.S. casualties occurred during this 20-year nation building stage, which ended up being a complete failure. And the worst part is that it was entirely predictable, given the earlier experiences of the British and the Soviets.
