Cardio and lasting longer during sex?

I heard somewhere that cardio and being in shape helps you last longer during sex, is there any truth to this? I haven't been working out since I got into college last semester but I just started this week, would I start noticing improvements about my endurance if I kept it up? Or is it just more of a mental thing?

Of course it's true.

There are two keys that determine how long you can last.


  • How long can you receive constant stimulation to your penis before you have to orgasm
  • How much physical stamina you have to continue the motions needed for sex.
If you have good physical stamina it would take you longer to reach exhaustion.

Well as Maxtro mentioned being in good shape can help you actually do the motions much longer.

But in terms of increasing the threshold of how much stimulation you can take before orgasm, I haven't noticed much effect from general moderate intensity cardio.

However, I do remember when I was doing HIIT for a few weeks last year it was insane. I could last much longer than usual, AND I'd usually be ready to go again almost immediately.

Hmm.. maybe I should start doing it again, awesome stuff.

High Intensity Interval Training.

You can google for various programs but the basic idea is instead of going for a long time at a moderate pace like in a long distance job, you go all out, then rest, then repeat.

For example after getting warmed up, spring full out for 30 seconds, then walk/jog for 30 seconds, then sprint, etc. Doesn't sound that hard but you will feel like dying in less than ten repetitions, guaranteed.

Or do it strict Tabata style (which is the origin of HIIT, I believe). 20 seconds of explosive workout followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated for 8 sets per workout.

when you get in really good shape you can have a lot more sex and be a lot better and it effects your performance is a positive way.
