People usually drink a beer over some length of time. The longer you take to drink it, the more separated the alcohol will be in your system. You'll get less drunk this way, so you would get another beer, trying to get a better buzz, and in the process, you'd take in more calories. The shot hits you all at once, with a lot more alcohol. Take a few shots within a minute or two, and you'll be hell of a lot more drunk than a bunch of beers, and you'd take in a lot less calories as well.
You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.
Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.
Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

I think it depends a lot on where you live. If you live in a small town they'll probably give you community service and put you on probation. If it's your second offense they might make you go to jail for a day or two.I got caught "possessing alcohol" yesterday. I'm pissed!
