Personally? Lame marketing trick (arising out of abusing feminist theory) because companies are losing profits, the media is losing subscribers, and consumers are actually becoming smarter with their choices. The "male gaze", a simple term for an action that's been done by men and women alike since the dawn of time, seems just made, or manufactured, for the virality of news articles and advertisements and related movies that the newsroom/corporation want you to watch.
I mean please, no one can buy in these stocked department stores even if all clothes are already on 70% sale, because the wealthy have abused their motives on capitalist efficiency and are now feeling the slowing down of revenue. Just forgetting how too much supply leads to little to no demand.
We're being sold a term, and dictated a term, supposedly about who we are. I just don't buy it.
