Well IME I've only lived with 2 women in my 38yrs of life. The 1st one was when I was really young, early 20's. Looking back it wasn't all that serious. She moved in pretty quick, maybe after 3mo? Since then many yrs later I've had a few woman ask about cohabiting but my gut also screamed......NO.
I don't think it hits a level of "seriousness" until they actually move in but again that's just my opinion and how I handle things. I dated my ex wf a good 1.5yrs before we found a place together. During that time she had her own place, was successful and self-sefficient.
Now @ 38 it's been quite the ride but I really don't see things changing all that much. Yeah I'll date and bang but actually be serious? Ha, that's an adorable thought. I'm perfectly content own my own for now. We'll see what the future brings me.
