An Upper East Side man was arrested for beating his wife after their baby sitter gave him up to cops, authorities said yesterday.
Robert Gilan, 44, allegedly slugged his wife in the face in the presence of their children, ages 4 and 7, in the couple's Park Avenue apartment at 11:50 p.m. Saturday.
Police were called, but the victim refused to cooperate and apparently tried to cover up the crime.
She claimed she suffered a black eye when she fell to the ground. But the baby sitter, who was caring for the kids, told cops the husband had punched his wife.
Based on the sitter's account, the husband was charged with attempted assault and child endangerment, a DA's spokeswoman said.
