i found out that when i couldnt afford a colonder to drain hamburger meat when making spegetti, you could put coffee filters on a plate and they made the best papertowel subsitute.
i also found out that toothpaste will wash any white clothes you have.
nothing cleans like clorox, so when you are broke, thats one of the only cleaning supplies you buy.
remember that vinegar you bought at easter to dye the eggs? mix it with water and wipe the windows. no need to windex!
i stole toliet paper from work and at one time i had a key that turned the washers and dryers on and it was a way of survival.

knew what day of the week our local winndixie carted out food they were about to throw in the dumpster. stuff that didnt sale on dented can week and diary and meat that expired the day before. they would leave it in the carts for a few minutes before dumping it for anyone who wanted it.

lol, this is bringing back a lot of old memories. I've used coffee filters to drain hamburger and french fries lots of times. I've also used vinegar for windows. If you mix white tooth paste with baking soda and a little bit of water it makes a great substitute for Comet...AND it will take water marks off wood. I've made some of the most "creative" meal casseroles you can imagine.

hehe...done that too with tomato soup. I found that kids will eat damn near anything if you put it in a pie crust. You just call it pie and they think it's a treat, lol.

Did you ever add mushroom soup to spaghetti? That's actually pretty good if you like mushrooms. There are about 101 uses for the powdered cheese in macaroni and cheese and the same for the seasoning packet in ramen noodles. And Jiffy Baking mix...you could always make something if you had that and a can or soup and vegetables.

You know...I think the main reason I get so ticked off when the guys on here slam single mothers and whine about child support is because while I struggled, scraping and scrounging just to make sure we survived my ex husband was calling my sister's house to talk to the kids (we couldn't afford a phone for a long time) bragging about how he bought a sailboat and a new truck when we didn't even have a car to go to the supermarket to buy all those ramen noodles they had to eat. He only had to pay $50 a month for 3 kids because he quit his job before we went to court just to avoid having to pay. He was making twice what he had to pay a year in one week and he didn't even buy our kids birthday and christmas gifts. They remember all that and he wonders why they hate his guts now. I mean come on...$50 freaking dollars a month and he wouldn't pay it because I left him for abusing me in every possible way you can think of AND he started selling marijuana out of the home my kids lived in and growing it in the back yard. Sorry...but there is NO WAY I'm going to let anyone put my children at risk...screw that. If he wants to risk going to jail all the more power to him, but I wasn't going to let him take me down with him and endanger my babies...no freaking way.

Okay...enough ranting about all that. The bottom line is that before anyone judges a single mother they ought to try walking in one's shoes for a little while and see how well they manage.

I do. It came in a cardboard box, and it was sliced but the slices were not individually wrapped. I think it said something hilarious like CHEESE ***U.S. GOV'T*** on the side of the box, thus the name.

Keep in mind when judging welfare mothers that since it is state not Federal, there are fifty different systems. Some states are more generous than others. My ex-wife's friends in Georgia always had money left over at the end of the month. They often threw big barbeque parties. They also had subsidized apartments for about $50/mo or so. Some poor people are better than others at milking the system. When I worked at a convenience store in Illinois ten years ago, we sold coke/pepsi and bags of ice to people on food stamps. It was ironic to see them then load their cooler in their boat in the parking lot as they were going out for the day. These examples are probably the exception, not the norm, but the welfare situation does vary greatly from state to state.

Your bitterness towards your deceased alpha male husband is the reason you give such AFC advice here on these boards; it is your way of getting even with him and is the driving force for much of the bitterness of the feminist movement. The irony is that the Alphas will still do whatever the fvck they want; it's the Betas (on this boards) who will suffer.

Best,

For those who are able to get subsidized housing...their situation is much better. Unfortunately, there is not enough of that housing to go around. For every single mother in subsidized housing there are at least 100 more on a waiting list. I tried that route way back when and there was a 5 year waiting list for most of the apartments.

Yes, there are some people who cheat the system. I've seen people collecting both welfare and disability while working under the table. I remember when I was trying to get on my feet and started working (and this was before welfare reform, so I don't know how it works now) it was especially rough because they didn't provide any transition help and you basically got penalized for actually going to work. I saw a lot of younger single mothers without much work experience end up going back on welfare because the lacked the skill to make enough money to pay rent, buy food and they lost insurance for their kids. I do think that has been changed somewhat now, though to make it easier to get on your feet and off welfare. The ones that cheat the system give those who don't a bad rap. There were an awful lot of very good people who were down on their luck and needed help that I met. There were also the ones that cheated and played the system. Oddly enough...those who usually played the system were the two parent families. I'm not sure why...but there is a certain demographic of males who seem to like to see how much they can get away with when it comes to scamming social services programs. Maybe it was a coincidence, who knows...but there was definitely some kind of pattern going on there. Drugs and alcohol were usually a factor as well.

Best,
My EX husband is very much alive...and he is, always has been and always will be a pathetic pvssy. He is not, never has been and never will be an alpha. He's a loser who hits women and neglects his children. Hell, I'm not even bitter, either. I'm just sick of guys like you who have more baggage than Samsonite themselves making hypocritical judgements about single mothers. My ex husband is what he is...and I actually much prefer that he just leave my kids and I alone.

My fiance of 5 years is the one who died...and he was a WONDERFUL man. He was the alpha male...and he treated me perfectly. I have nothing but love for him.

My advice is not AFC. Yours, however, reeks of insecurity and is AFC. In fact, if it weren't for you attacking and insulting me so that I slap you down, no one would even notice you. You post your retarded nonsense to me because you are desperate for attention from a woman...even one that views you as a pathetic little snivelling turd.

How does it feel having to ride on my coattails to get noticed? Dork...

Yeah, but that's just taking a passive attitude. Look at the statistics of what happens when a child grows up without a father. Almost EVERY aspect of their lives are affected negatively. They're many times more likely to do poorly in school, become teen parents themselves, have a lower income, and even end up in jail.

To just "chalk it up" is to sit by and watch as society destroys itself. And while it may just do that, I think people should at least make an attempt to correct things. I don't think it's a completely lost cause yet.
There's nothing you I or anybody we know can do anything to stop the numerous reasons as to why there are so many single parents in the world. I don't think you're fully grasping the entire concept I was putting across. I wasn't "chalking it up" and brushing it aside, I'm stating that there's a large combination of things that contribute to the growing number of single parents.

I'm not saying it's a lost cause but I am saying that there are many other equally pressingly issues that are equally difficut to solve that have the side effect or can be linked diretly to various reasons why there are a growing number of single adults in society.

I'd get further in depth with this but it gets political to say the least which as we all know is not allowed on this site. Regardless the issue is to large to be discussed here in the depth and complexity that is its domain.

You know, there is a simple solution to this.

Cut welfare to people with more than 2 kids (prevents poor people from having 50 kids who will become welfare bums).

Seriously, many people are in no position to have kids. The only reason they do is because socialist governments (especially in Europe) literally pay the poor to have more children. Why do you think Europe is having a population crisis?

I think that this thread proves that there is no easy simple answer to this question and no simple solution.

And this is your chance to play mother-hen, whilst sitting at home and dreaming of your prince that will never come. You're 40 and in de-nial.

Umm, She's 40 and (if I remember correctly) married. Also, if I remember correctly, she has a child. She doesn't need us to play "mother-hen". What does she have to be in denial about?

That's pretty ignorant. When I left my ex husband for beating me, raping me, growing and selling drugs from the same home my kids and I lived in I had to go on welfare for a little while. I had 3 children. Are you saying that someone in my situation should not be able to get help so they aren't living on the street and have food to eat? Perhaps we should have been forced to stay in an abusive home so my children would grow up with scars so deep that they would turn into criminals instead of the great kids they are today?
