Yeah, I can definitely imagine it, and as I say, I feel like there might be some slight culture differences.
Just saying that i've personally never seen it with friends who worked in fast food when we were young. I also worked in a bar briefly, and it wasn't that uncommon for some of the bar staff to hook up after hours when we'd either have a 'lock in', or even go clubbing, but again, it was the same guys getting laid who would also get laid if they were just out with their mates. In other words, their line of work was kind of irrelevant. It wasn't as though the nerdy ugly dude was suddenly banging all the hot girls just because he worked in a warehouse/restaurant/bar - even if he was teh shift manager lol
I personally never worked at a mall or a fast-food restaurant. However, in Atlanta, where I graduated from high school, my best friend was a 6'4" Hispanic guy who briefly worked at McDonald's. He was undocumented and was being raised by a single mother, so he needed the job. The area was basically made up of well-off Black families whose kids were somewhat ghetto, preppy white families, and undocumented Latino families.
He kept complaining about how early he had to start his shifts and how, because he was so tall, working the cash register constantly hurt his back. One night, we got home around 4:00 a.m., and his shift started at 7:00 a.m. That ended up being the day he quit. The point of this thread is that he didn't hook up with anyone there. Most of the people he brought around were just guys to play basketball with or smoked weed with.
After that, he got a job at Hollister. He really started doing well with women after getting hired, not only because he got a new wardrobe and a makeover, but also because it was a more prestigious place to work. I'm not sure whether he hooked up with any of his coworkers, but he got a bunch of phone numbers from customers and employees, and his popularity at school noticeably increased with the girls.
Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that your job and where you work can affect your social status. People generally won't view you the same way if you work at an undesirable, hole-in-the-wall place with a terrible reputation.
