"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Hi guys,

I hope everyone's doing alright. If you had one advice to give your past self and future self, what would that be?

For me:

Past: Turn off the TV, don't listen to all that bull**** thats being said. The only way to learn is to make mistakes and be ruthless. It'll be hard but you'll grow.

Future: Dear future me, do not turn into a bitter ******* and read this letter before killing yourself. I can't promise that things will work out, but I'm sure that with all these hard times, you'd become the man you wanted to be. Just hang on.

"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

Swallow your ego, stop procrastinating and put in the hard yards. Most importantly, believe in yourself.

Is this for past or future self? Because I think there's a difference in what you'd tell the two, keeping the present as your reference point.

Past: Your best memories will be the adventurous time with your friends and yourself. There is no need for a girlfriend. Stop wasting your time with them. Most of them don't bring anything up except problems. Don't let anyone waste your time. Life has to be endured, so stop crying and being shy.

Future: Don't forget to never stop improving, every single day of your life. Move forward every day, even if it's only one inch. That's what build a man, and you are one so build yourself. And that to the end of your life.

Both my friend, I seem to have a knack to go off on a tangent until I pull myself back onto the straight and narrow and reset all over.

Past self: You're on the right path, just don't get married anytime soon.
Future self: You've done well, ol' boy!*

* I'd tell myself that because nobody else is going to do it.

Are you influenced by existentialism?

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

Past self: stop trying to please women. Focus on self improvement.

Future self: hope you are enjoying all that money I saved for you. Use it for adventures, not stuff.
