I'm throwing this out as a tip, because it actually works for me. I've noticed that when I make a decision that pertains to DJness, sometimes its easy for me to trick myself into believing something that really isn't the case. Do I call or not? Should I say something, or wait. Do I take this move or that move. Then, many times, you'll end up talking yourself into doing something that you shouldn't have done.
So, for clarity, ask yourself, "What would Rollo do?" (insert whoever's name here that you respect most). When you pretend like that and think from an expert's perspective, I've just noticed it brings out more honesty with yourself, and it might cause you to hesitate or take a different course before you do something stupid.
"What would Jesus do" apparently works for the Christains. Why not apply the same principle to DJing?
It is a crutch of sorts, but we all could use a little help when it comes to developing these new skills.
