She uses that ploy to gain your sympathy and pull you in deeper. She tries to use the truth to work for her.

You can tell within a five minute conversation (if you are actively seeking the answer) whether any human has victim mentality.

If you need to philosophize about why that is, or what the ramifications of hanging out with victims, you're likely a victim yourself as @deesade pointed out.

DQ victims and move on. No need to worry about the why's and heretofore's.

Unless you are a sociopath or con-artist, then that's another story.
