"I'm Not Looking for Anything Serious Right Now"

When a woman says it, guys hear a confession. A heads-up. A scheduling conflict.

Here's the translation: I don't feel anything. Right now. With you.

Watch what happens when a man triggers actual attraction. The busy career, the recent breakup, the "not in a place to date" — all of it evaporates instantly. The same woman who was guarding her freedom is suddenly free every night.

The "22 Rules" explain why. When the right switches flip, her timeline rearranges itself around you.

I got a little blue a couple of days ago thinking about VDay. Even though I regard it as a "hallmark holiday" the fact that so many people get energized about it does alter the atmosphere a bit.

I got blue thinking about the ex, wishing my situation was more tidy, satisfying.

Now I'm glad I went through the blueness. A good friend talked me through a lot of it and I felt more centered the next day.

In a way I got a taste of the downside of the matrix. I shudder to think all the people who dread VDay because for them it's another opportunity to rub salt in whatever relationship wounds they have. I and many of you are fortunate to have the resources we have, not least this one.

Obviously the value we get is not about VDay, which ultimately is a sentimental pimple on the butt of reality, but in other infinitely more substantial ways.

So I take this opportunity, hinging on what ultimately is an empty calorie event, to appreciate all of you and what you contribute to me in so many real ways.

Point is, we are all unique here, all of us in varying situations and hopefully evolving on our paths, but what we have is each other, for better or worse.
Who knows how long it will last but I for one cannot entirely put into words the my appreciation for the value I've gotten.

Thanks and HAPPY VALENTINE'S, guys!! :flowers:

"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

I like this side of Dr. P!! It's nice. I really hope we don't lose the other side though. =D

Yeah it's valentine's day and LOST night with me and the ex.

She asked me before I cut her off: "So this means you won't be coming over thursday for lost?"?

Just gave her a flat out "No." :(

Damn, I'll miss that. LOST was our show.

Oh well! I think you guys here are most important to me in my life right now. I don't know where else I could get so much support and life wisdom. Thanks to all of you!!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! :flowers:

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

Thank you for your wonderful thoughts. Yes, we are all unique here and I like to think that the majority are good people at varying points on their road to becoming Mature Men. Have a great day. Cheers!

I'm sure this day depresses far more people than it brings joy to.

I just had a female friend txt me saying she's depressed and she knows it's stupid to be depressed about it and that makes her feel bad so she's in a "shame spiral." Haha. Then I said "weel u b mi ballentine" and she asked if i'd buy her dinner. I said "crazy talk."

I really don't care at all having no gf or anything today. I don't like holidays in general. They're such a pain in the ass. I like days like st. patrick's day since they're so simple. You just go and have a few beers, spread some cheer, and there's no pressure to buy people sh1t or make long drives to see family or anything.

Sorry, my dance card is full.

I was working last night and I texted my plate to tell her where I was "in case she was in the neighborhood", left the number.

She buzzed in without calling and got a foot massage.:)

We never talked about Valentine's, skipped the subject, but I could feel it in the air, creating tension. Did not want to "do" Valentine w/her- she's not my gf, too "heavy".

I told her I was going for a hike Sunday and she was invited.
No, she says, what if we get excited and then I want to spend the night?:D
No good, Monday follows- so the plan became Saturday, she's making dinner, and I have a feeling we're going to get excited.:) :)

Now I don't take credit for masterminding this scenario, but I did play along on an instinctive level- I'm convinced that the energy around Valentine's created tension that was somewhat released with the date planning.

The rest of the tension will be released in a couple of days.:) :) :)

"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

My no. 3 plate, who flaked on me a week ago, texted me that she tried to mail me "something sexy" but had a problem with the mailman...

I'm trying to stay firm in NEXTING her, but she is superhot.

Here was my response:

Sexy packages don't need a mailman.
They deliver themselves to the male man.
