What would you do to have a place to live:

a) Spend 50% of your salary on rent
b) Spend 80% of your capital, less than $50,000, to buy a tiny 1 room studio apartment or office and live there? (I say 50k because a house cost 500k where i live. So it depends on your living place)

For option a, you take on the stress, but you'll live better than option b.
But option B allows you to save 50% of your salary and have more leverage to take on other types of jobs, and just be free.

People, expecially women, will judge your situation. Would you care more about that, or about your freedom?

Just wait untill you meet enough women that will embarrass you and your living situation..I don't care what dudes say here and how they spin the narrative. I don't care how many women you slept with I'm your bust down Toyota..theres more to life.

You know I always opt for being as independent as possible. Level the F up. It's a years long battle to go from nothing to fully equipped and 100% women proof..start your adventure TODAY.

1. look for other options....
2. B is better than A, but ONLY if it is liquid (Can you sell it again and get your money back later.)

Option B is living better than some others. Play in that crowd for women. Don't go to the rich side of town to look for women if your using your home as image and it doesn't match up to that side of town. Or just skip the money talk with the women and talk about other stuff.

Unless you live in a Mining Town or a Town whose employment generator could collapse or decline...Buy! what you are really buying is land,they aren't making any more,but the population keeps expanding,a good investment!...People use Real Estate like stepping stones,you buy a run down place,improve it save more money move to a bigger place do it up...However I think you are moving too early,wait and buy a bigger place with potential to share,generate more income,In most Countries interest on personal housing investment is a Tax deduction...

Who in their right mind is spending 50% of their salary on rent?

Only someone who is financially illiterate would do that unless they had a plan within a very short time to lower that burden.

You don't have a right to live somewhere you can't afford. Move somewhere cheaper or level up your finances.

OP was using "roof" metaphorically, to describe the price of a dwelling.

I'd choose freedom over all else.

I lived in a tiny flat in Japan for about 15 years and you get used to that.

I'd rather save on housing (so long as you're not next to loud neighbors, in a bad neighborhood) to build financial freedom any time.

People, expecially women, will judge your situation.

They can keep their judgments to themselves.

Thanks to anyone who comes and shares their experience.

I feel freer to choose option B.
Simply knowing I'm debt-free and have a secure place to live allows me to take on my first debt, but as an investment: I'll buy another house or office, and someone will pay the rent for me through my rent.
And I'll earn a little extra.
