Perhaps some of it was a reaction to the culture of its time, and yet other parts of it merely tools for men who've been socially beaten down pretty badly by their tribe.
"Negs" might've been a measure against a culture wherein pedestalizing was the norm.
"Social drills" and "eye contact practice" might've been a measure for men who otherwise wouldn't have access to women outside his tribe, and said tribe likely wasn't treating him very well as it stood.
