I still think the setting where a mod must approve a member's first post would be useful. A lot of spam and troll posts come from a member's very first post.

When I first read this, I thought it was a really good idea.

But the more I think about it, a lot of newbies come in here and have no clue, and might ask some really naive questions that might be seen as trollish. They might get turned away without ever knowing why, and get discouraged without having the opportunity to stay and learn.

Eventually you will also have the door wide open for moderators dictatorships.

Moderators will lead the forum based on their préférences (posting and posters material will be decided by them)

It will kill the democratics and accessibility of the forum.

Anyway, you need to deal with haters/negativity in a alpha matter.

1) ignore them
2) leave the négative people/places
3) have a sense of humour about it that will cut their legs and make them powerless.

Like in life.

Losers are to be avoided
Negativity to be kept far
Have a sense of humour because life is mysterious and complex, so you better laught at it

We got a LOT of post reports where a SS member alleges "troll" when it could be a troll, OR, it could also just as easily be a new member who really doesn't know and needs help. Anytime we think there is a slight chance it's the latter we don't intervene. It's a judgement call.

I care zero about trolls/haters. I am a hater of spam, and this place is the low-hanging fruit for spammers and bots. The bots get better all the time at tricking us into thinking we are talking to a real person. I think that will be the inevitable end of all Internet forums, when it is impossible to tell who is human and who is not.

If you took some time to look at all the other forums that the spammers post the same posts on, Sosuave is the ONLY place where people actually engage in conversation.

To me, that says more of the gullibility (and desperateness) of SS'ers than the cleverness of the spammers.
