To answer your question I think it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for some type of long term thing, I would say yes just fap before the date. You'll be able to focus better and probably have a better time. If you're mainly looking to bang, then show up with a boner and do your thing.
One way I found to conceal a boner is to maneuver it so that it's pointing straight up and held in place under the waist line of your pants. It's much harder to see this way and it's also pointing against gravity as an added bonus (blood flow). If it sticks up out of your pants, just don't lift your shirt up lol
