To answer your question I think it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for some type of long term thing, I would say yes just fap before the date. You'll be able to focus better and probably have a better time. If you're mainly looking to bang, then show up with a boner and do your thing.
One way I found to conceal a boner is to maneuver it so that it's pointing straight up and held in place under the waist line of your pants.
