They look at us and see someone that shouldn't have a higher level of success - than them. It's like they have this perceived entitlement mentality. As to me, they see someone that is not as stylishly dressed, or driving the latest car model, etc... and because they put stock (money, energy and effort) into these things and see someone else reaping benefits that they aren't... they have this "it's not fair" mindset.
If you look beneath the surface, it's flattering,and funny. These men are basing their worth and image on who you are. You're the leader. And... women being the perceptive creatures that they are, will see their behavior as weak and catty (neither of which, looks good on a man).
What can you do towards it?
The best thing is to disengage and not even acknowledge, but I haven't always taken my own advice.
Once I told a guy (while around his peers) "I wish you could get over me."
Another time, there was a guy that was for more cleaver with snide remarks (I'll give him that) I responded with "why are you bidding for my attention? I'm not taking you home." I made it sound sincere as if I really thought that this was his intention. He never bothered me again.

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?
She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."
She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.
I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Why? Because humans need predictability, it gives us a sense of control over others. When you alter yourself, this is a threat to that preditability, so the logical attempt is to put us back into our places. Shaming comes as a natural tactic for women, to get back into their frame. The new you is a frame grab. Others around you have a desire to see normalcy, not your best interest.
Change all at once and people will accuse your personality of being a disingenuous reaction to having been burned. Do it subtly and persistently over a time and people will be more willing to accept the change as genuine. Always insist on change, but never too quickly.

It’s a difference in inner game. For the shallow wanna be womanizer, even if he meets with a fair level of success or even much success, if his self worth derives from his notch count & he is externally validated by attention from women 2 things occur.
1. He tends to attract lower quality girls as a rule (who might be hot but have other liabilities)
2. He tends to hang out with other men who are similarly externally validated and thus in competition with him (and often this will be covert rather than overt). Hence the jealousy and the preening & the back stabbing behaviors.
The above man cares way to much how he is perceived by other men and his value is directly correlated to his success with women...mostly by volume.
Contrast that to a man with solid inner game. A man as described by @stormrider who is indifferent to women by volume & who rather picks and chooses whether a certain woman is worthy of his effort and investment.
Such a man is also impervious to the whims and jealousies of other men. He is indifferent to this as well so it does not affect him.
The indifference (otherwise known around here as IDGAF) permeates such a man’s vibe and is anchored in who he is at his core, which is internally validated and focused not on women as an end goal but on his own pursuits.
Externally validated men aspire to be internally validated solid guys and so they are drawn to men who exude this quality. It cannot be faked and the posers out there know it.
Hence the difference. Solid men with inner game are not going to be bothered by insecure externally validated attention seeking men anymore than they bother with attention w h o r e women. Solid men are going to interact with solid quality type women that the attention seeking men have trouble pulling.
Thus the dynamic Stormrider observes. My guess is Atom Smasher & Glassguy & Guru1000 have similar experiences for all exhibit solid inner game as demonstrated by the content and perspectives posted on SS.
