This is probably the only "fault" I could find, because I'd have just searched bars in the area near her and picked one, rather than ask her and let her lead.

First of all, judging by his use of the word "lass", the OP is in the UK. That country has a lot of stupid laws but it is not illegal to leave a 10 year old unattended for several hours. Nor should it be. Sexual predators have been around a lot longer than the internet. If your 10 year old cannot be left alone for a couple of hours without inviting a pedophile over, you have miserably failed as a parent.
