I had an interesting discussion with Grok about how modern dating culture changed compared to the 2000s.

One thing that stood out to me is that some older frustrations men had seem less common now. Back then, there were endless discussions about cold approaching, being friendzoned for years, or investing emotionally in women who were clearly more interested in someone else. Modern dating apps and social media make attraction and intent more obvious much earlier, even if the overall environment is colder and more transactional.

Another thing is how much the stigma around male singleness changed. A movie like The 40-Year-Old Virgin felt shocking in 2005, but today long-term singleness feels much more normalized across society.

Obviously there are downsides to modern dating too—social isolation, superficiality, unrealistic expectations—but I’m not convinced everything about the older dating environment was necessarily better either.
