Textbook David D stuff says yes, but I disagree. I say no. I think if people don't know you're joking, you are doing it wrong. I never understood the whole "messing with people and making them wonder if you are serious or joking."

In my experience, if the girl is attracted to you, treading down this path has the potential to shoot her attraction levels to an absolute zenith (funny enough, no matter how incomprehensible you actually may be to them, their attraction toward you will help them rationalize it in their brains that they "get you"), and if attraction levels are low it can easily get her to write you off as a jerk/@sshole. If this is the way you typically are, if you feel comfortable with the whole push-pull approach, then I say roll with it all the way until you come across a girl who "gets it".
