What I like to do is visualize them in a position of weakness before I approach if I feel intimidated, that helps too. Imagine them being made fun of and just taking it since they don't know how to handle it. Imagine her calling herself an idiot or a loser because she said something stupid and regrets it. Imagine her watching TV all day on her day off, accomplishing nothing. And realize this has all happened to her, and will probably happen again and again throughout her life. That helps just as much as imagining her as ugly (which she would be with 50 lbs and some facial scars)
