Imus got fired because advertisers were pulling their ads from MSNBC and CBS radio in response to pressure from people who were offended. The offended people were planning a major boycott on the products of all those advertisers. Clearly, there were so many people outraged and bothered by the comments that the advertisers felt they would lose a significant amount of money if they did not pull their ads from those stations.bigjohnson said:

Until Black comedians stop making hateful and racist remarks, until rappers stop rapping publicly on public airways, until ALL forms of speech are banned and controlled, Imus should serve no punishment.
FREE speech. It might not have been appropriate, but I *Highly* doubt the victims (if they can be called that) were listening to his comments live. What keeps that community down isn't jokes, which are FIRST made ok by that racial community, it's the fact that only aging leaders like Sharpton step forward. The real perpetrators aren't white folk and crackers like Imus, or even Stern, who are as insiginificant as they come only moments after they speak, but the community itself which doesn't police or speak out on the self-hatred and deprication they spread everyday.
I've never heard other communities put themselves down so much and actually PROFIT by it. It's wrong because IMUS said it. It wasn't wrong because it was said, but by WHO said it. I GUARANTEE someone is saying something publicly and privately that's probably an insult to me. GUARANTEE it. What do I care? Does that effect me? My Reality? If someone publicly proclaims that PUA/SS guys are pansies, trying to make up for a lost childhood that lacked a father figure and are now seeking an identity in the vaginas of 3 billion women, will all men here take offense and rise up?

Anyone remember when O&A said Mayor Menino was dead and he couldn't vouch for his still living b/c he was in a helicoptor? They were booted, brought back, booted, and are now back. I would say that's worse, MUCH worse. Their words created ACTION. It caused a state of unrest. It forced police to act, and citizens of the state to react. That was akin to yelling FIRE in a crowded theater, which causes action, which is attributable to the speaker of said words.
People need to HEAR the derogatory comments and actually think, "is there truth to that?" If some guys got on the radio say women have become useless *** dumpsters that only possess a head full of sand, should lawsuits ensue or would there be pause so we could consider the veracity of such an argument?
I'm not saying these words may not hurt...however, you CHOOSE to act or react, and if they want to take issue, point the finger at the right place, the place where the words ORIGINATED from. Go there. Go to the source. Right now, they're throwing a bandaid on a broken leg hoping to be able to still walk. Rather, diagnose the problem correctly. Stop having "hoes" in music videos. Stop making it seem like being a "hoe" or a "*****" is cool. Stop having the figures of your racial community act negatively. Start having leaders that push classiness, wealth, health, positivity, sharing, and all that happy horse manure. Start having leaders youths in your racial community LOOK up to, not gangbangers, porno directors, and football players given every chance to be great who throw it away (ahem, Pacman Jones). Stop letting negative images on tv and in the media pigeonhole you into a stereotype.

If firing him was a pure business choice then it's not his employers fault, it's peoples fault in general. I never listened to his show, but this sort of thing turns my stomach.

I think the people who went after him are just as bigoted. I personally didn't think his show was funny but he shouldn't have been taken off the air.
They went after him because he LOOKS like the stereotypical bigoted old man that people visualize when they think of white racist. A stern cold face with a cowboy hat making fun of minorities. People don't even realize when he said "nappy headed hoes" he was trying to play the out-of character old man who talks in black slang. It was a joke, I do that stuff all the time.
Some people just want us all to become these predictable robots who are completely safe from any bad influences that may arise. These people are so afraid of feeling any vulnerability.
I bet if he had stood up for himself he might still be on the air. That was a pretty bad way to go out.

Imus is an old white guy who has been on the radio for a LONG time...talk radio. He is similar to Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, etc...he makes really offensive remarks about women, people of other races, religions, etc. He's a "Shock Jock". In addition to this...he's actually very good at interviewing political figures, has been influential in getting more money for veterans, and does a buttload of charity work...even started a ranch for kids with cancer. He's actually a decent person who does a lot of great things who also happens to say shocking and offensive things on the radio because that's what people like and listen to.
It's just one big hot mess...and he should not have been fired. Fined and suspended for a couple of weeks, sure...but not fired.
What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I read some info about the woman who accused them and based on what I know about pscyhology...it sounds like she has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from a real rape that happened years ago. It's possible that something that night with the Duke students triggered a flashback and caused her to freak out and think she was raped again. NiFong SHOULD have known this and thrown the case out. The woman, from what I read, said all along that she didn't know what really took place or if she had been raped that night. I think NiFong used her just like he knowingly tried to destroy those boys' lives for political gain. Most of the population where he was running for DA is black. First...I don't watch the View. Second...I was actually watching all of the news reports regarding Shawn Hornbeck with my own two eyes, so I know exactly how that played out, thank you very much. I was also watching Bill O'Reilly's show when he said what he did. So...kindly refrain from telling me what did or did not happen or what was or was not said because I watched it with my own two eyeballs.
What O'Reilly said was WAY out of line...and yes, even in the entire context he said it. We all KNEW it was going to come out that Mike Devlin is a pedophile and for any reporter to imply that a kid who was kidnapped at gunpoint at 10 years old "liked" living with his kidnapper is just plain wrong. That kid had been through pure hell and did what he had to do to survive and no reporter has any right to accuse a kidnapped child of "liking" being kidnapped.
Well, there are a lot of black people coming out in the media saying it was wrong to fire Imus and have the double standard defending rap music while going after Imus. I'm glad of that, because it is a double standard.

Don't tell me what I saw, heard, think or believe...you do NOT know me. Let's make that very clear. I am not a Democrat or a Liberal either. I'm actually more Conservative than most people on this forum. That being said...none of this has a damn thing to do with politics. It's about what is right and what is wrong. Do I like Bill O'Reilly? Nope...but not because of what he says. I dislike him for the way he says things. He's rude, obnoxious, interrupts his guests and is just disrespectful to people. He lacks class and manners. My favorite news show to watch is Glenn Beck. I agree with him on most things, like his humor and he has manners and class with his guests. He also pokes fun at himself and doesn't take everything so seriously.

He was talking about a boy who was kidnapped at a young age by gunpoint and held by a huge, hulking man who everyone knew never dated women or had girlfriends for over 4 years. The look on that boy's face told everything. Contrary to what you may think...kids like to go to school even if they don't want to do the work because that is where they get to socialize with other kids. I'm the mother of 4 children, so I know this for a fact. Kids might like to be out of school for a little while...but not for over 4 years. When you isolate a child in the way Devlin did at 10 or 11 years old their emotional/maturity growth is stunted. When a child is traumatized they often get stuck in the emotional age where that trauma happened. What would make a man who does not have normal relations with women kidnap two young boys for? Only an idiot would not assume those boys were sexually abused. And while Shawn was not going to school he was forced to have sex with Devlin and was forced to make child pornography...yeah, sounds like a real fun time, doesn't it? Get real...O'Reilly KNEW what the story on this was going to be before he opened his mouth about that kid and he did it anyway. It was cruel and irresponsible on his part to say the things he did. I don't care if all the facts weren't out yet or not because everyone knew what the facts would involve the second those boys were found. Why didn't the kid escape? Because Devlin had him convinced that no one would believe him and would blame him and think he enjoyed his time with Devlin...just like Bill O'Reilly implied. What if there are other kids that are being held like Shawn was who saw what Bill O'Reilly said? It would reinforce the very things molesters, child rapists and kidnappers of children say to their victims to keep them from asking for help.
