I don't understand people who feel they need to be up their eyebrows in guns. If it's all about personal protection, one glock will do you just fine. I mean what the f-ck, are these guys trying to start a paramilitary?

I don't know some people like rifles. After they're banned you won't be able to buy even one new. They might even ban Glocks, who knows. But they'll for sure ban magazines with full capacity. It's kind of like the gov putting an 85 mph governor on sports cars, "because no one needs it..", or you have a 1st admendment right "but (now) you can't say x,y and z because of yadda yadda" if you catch my drift. The point is there will be bans, regulations and taxes and who knows what they will be. My personal opinion is guns are regulated enough as it is just leave it alone. And rights are being infringed on because no one "needs" rights..

First, I don't even own a weapon.

Second, the ban is ridiculous (assuming it's the same "Brady" ban.)
And I don't say that because I'm against gun control. I say that because it pointless.

It's nothing more than pandering to the ignorant masses.
Why?

Because what they define as an "assault weapon" is entirely arbitrary and has no impact on the lethality of a weapon.

As a small arms expert, a well trained warrior, and experienced combat veteran I can conclusively say that a ban will do no good.

From a common sense stand point I can say this bill will do no good.

Now, I can't remember all the specific qualities that they choose to define as belonging to an "assault weapon" but I do remember most (as defined in the old ban.)

1. Bayonet lugs. This one is ridiculous. How many shootings have ever included the criminal using a bayonet? And if a killer is so inclined then a steak knife and a hose clamp is all that is required. I'm sorry, but if I'm in the middle of a mall masacre the last thing I'm going to worry about is getting
*stabbed* by the guys rifle.

2. Flash suppressers. This one is also ridiculous. A flash suppressor is nothing more than a few slits in the muzzle of the rifle. What does it do? Nothing really. (I'm told) At night it does help reduce some of the flash from the perspective of the shooter but it has absolutely no impact on shooting abilities. Muzzle flash is just a cool effect they put in gangster movies but it's hardly even there in real life.

3. Three round burst and Fully auto. Okay. This has some slight validity. If someone puts a belt fed machine gun on their pickup and goes to the mall then there could be big trouble. But...nobody does that. As far as fully auto rifles I say bring it. There is a reason why Marines use semi-automatic rifles. For taking out individual targets, well aimed single shots are by far the most effective. I would even venture to say that a fully auto rifle would save lives in a mall massacre. Just because the chances of the shooter making accurate shots greatly decreases as well as the fact that a magazine will last only seconds.

4. High capacity magazines. What's the difference between a 10 round and 30 round mag? Not alot. You can litteraly drop a mag and have another reloaded by the time the first one hits the ground. We're talking 1 second max. Besides, in every shooting the shooter never gets off more than a few dozen shots. These guys are psychos, not trained warriors.

This is a ban that makes the uninformed feel warm and fuzzy but really does nothing to protect people.

I've been contemplating buying an AR lately. I'm just worried that I won't be able to afford the ammo when the democrats have their way. What's the point in having an AR if you can't afford to shoot it? I guess that's what the anti-gun nuts are hoping for.

As for Hi-cap mags, I don't personally use them - I have my Glock for home protection and concealed carry - but I'll probably buy some now, anyway.

I'm not for banning all guns, but military-grade weapons should stay in the hands of the military. Every year either some kid shoots himself or a friend or some idiot gets shot by a buddy on a hunting trip, so why give people a bigger gun? I'm sorry, but if people barely make good decisions as it is, then giving them a rifle is just going to make things worse.

Ban???

Where is this legislation regarding this ban? I think it is typical NRA scare tactics as there is no ban coming for any type of reasonable firearms. Personal Tanks will probably still be off limits.

if you really want to get paranoid, it's the New World Order that is pushing all the bans

So when the time comes and they take over, the people won't be well armed enough to fight back.

Personally, Remington 870 in the house. Canada doesn't like Handguns :( Though if i did buy one, i'd splurge big time and get a Sig Sauer P229.

I stocked up shortly after Brady hit sunset, so I'm good. I have been wanting a new short barreled shotgun but those are seldom on the "evil" list anyway. Speaking of the time limit on Brady, I thought we were supposed to be wading knee deep in blood by now?

Ya except it was never part of the definition of assault weapon. It *IS* part of the definition of Assault Rifle, but those have been strictly regulated since before you were alive. You consider yourself an expert on small arms?

Sure because the weak are only deserving of contempt, let them be victims. Remember kids, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Those guns are too simple for me, I was thinking more of buying a gatlin gun. I agree with aragon. When things go bad a gun will speak much louder than your words.

Great gun. I'm trying to decide between that and a H&K USP.

Nice. I'm going to have to remember this.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

These are some great replies guys. I've heard gun buying is at a frenzy and people who never owned a gun before are buying. Teflon McGee good points. Full autos have essentially been banned since the late 20's or 30's. There's enough gun regulation as it is.

Oh it's coming for sure. It's on the official presidential transition website that they want a permanent ban. They can't help themselves. Just how far the ban will go is unknown. And it's one of the dumbest things the new administration could do. They have a chance to ingratiate themselves to the opposition and change their views on Democrats and race relations and all that stuff but they won't. They will most likely antagonize gun owners and get into altercations with fringe gun owners just like Clinton did after '94. They should leave this alone.

Regulated or not you can bet that even class III will be gone.

And sorry, when I said "small arms expert" I didn't mean as in a grown man who collects and studies firearms with secret fantasies about having to use them.

I mean a small arms expert as in an expert in the use and manipulation of sub .50 caliber weapons (foreign and domestic)as it pertains to actual combat. You know, the stuff guys like you fantisize about.

First you have no idea about my fantasies, experience or training. Second I'm experienced, trained AND knowledgeable in the use of small arms INCLUDING .50 cal. weapons. Qualified expert in many at one time, also, own and use many, from .17 to .50 BMG. Finally, I don't want to kill anyone at any time in the future, let alone have fantasies regarding it. Nightmares more like.

Don't need to get all pissy because you were wrong fella. Just man up and say "I was wrong". Oops, happens.

It certainly doesn't invalidate your POINT which was completely true IMO.

I think class III is so regulated as it has been that it's a non-issue. It's the coming wholesale ban of anything autoloading that really stinks.

Lol, I'm hoping we can keep this thread civil. There are some out there like that though. I fantasize about more goergeous women who aren't feminist. I wonder if they'll get banned too lol? I think I'm running out of post now :( .

Not even if the jack boots come to grab your guns? I'm kidding, this is a reference to some of those guys not you. You know though it's bound to happen that they will antagonize those types. They should just leave them alone and let them fantasize.

If it comes to it then they will have them, and no I don't mean one bullet at a time. I'm a law abiding citizen and intend to remain one.

I'm not trying to start a fight here I just want facts to be well, factual. ;)
