Help me out with a cd

Hey guys...I'm making a cd for a friend of mine who's had it pretty rough. I want some songs that are kinda sad, but have a uplifting undertone to em you know? Like songs that talk about how tough life is, but like keep your head up type of thing. For example Live in the Sky by T.I. and Jaime Foxx. Preferably hiphop or r&b style music. Anybody got good ideas? Songs that get you through hard times.
