What do you guys think when you already has a gratifying job by using only your skills and plow your way through it and suddently you wanted to pursue having your degrees to secure more opportunities in the future.

In today's climate where most likely everyone has their degree and sits below their pay grade just to survive while others thrive in their successful field with having their scrolls.

I'm thinking about pursuing higher education at the moment and a bit ambivalence about it. Your thoughts are mostly appreciated.

I've got a masters degree in engineering and while it's good at the beginning of a man's career, its basically useless for me now other then stating or projecting that I had the discipline when I was young to plough through when others failed.

From an employer's perspective, seriously, degree means shiet, experience and attitude means hella a lot but a degree is used as a benchmark to weed out all those people who are applying for jobs without a minimum set of traits.

If I chooses the course it would be in bussines management, engineering I doubt so as I have no background or working experience in that field.

Where I'm coming from where its a finance industry it would be wise to stay in that particular field.

Mechatronics.

Just keep in mind that whatever you learned in university or learning is way...waaaaay behind what's going on in the real corporate world.
My relative majored in that. I was always more interested in the software side of things personally

I have a couple of degrees. Never used them once. But, the GI bill (business / psychology) paid for the 1st one, one of my employers paid for the other one (MBA). I left shortly after. So, there you go. Unless you go to a top 20 school, they mean sh!t.

That's why it's so difficult in term of this fvckin decision, higher education is great but it's isn't a Prerequisite if very well built in with talents and great personalities, you can almost win with everything vs the cost and time I have to bear if im going to pursue.

I didn't pay for mine. One was by Uncle Sam the other was by my former employer. See if you can have another entity to pay for it. Student debt destroys lives. In addition, AI is going to kill off most jobs anyway. Have you considered side hustles or starting your own business? I work for the gov't now, mainly for the benefits. It will pay off later on. I have some side hustle's that help make my life comfortable and easy going. Also, if you do select to go into debt, look up what loans your gov't will forgive after a certain amount of time in civil service.

I will get some side extra funds that I can put it into my studies, its a one off pymt I get from merging all my commitment into one pay off and it will significantly improve all other aspect in term of my financial freedom.

No side hustle currently, my company has slashed 30% of its manpower as its really bad here, everyone is trying to survive in this country where there is disparity in income to debt ratio had increased, u must has heard here in Malaysia there was a political scandal that has put the country in complete messed. So government won't help much.

I've just been thinking if that a degree would just open more opportunities in the future or will it increases my value let say if I get retired and go for another ventures? Or just starting a bussines when I'm done with my employer. It's more like a long term vision of mine.

If your working for someone else they are doing less work but smarter work and getting rich off YOUR work. Be that person.
Yeah I'm working in that kind of environment now and pretty much love it, it has been 10 years with current employer, yeah they getting it as much as possible. I'm pretty much on track yeah. Thank you, great wisdom.

I've strong formal background that allows me to successfully pass the recruitment process for decent positions

(I'm not a manager, I'm qualified specialist, currently I've 2 persons that I train and that support my work and several others that ask me for advice on regular basis).

You need formal background in fields that require formal background - that's it. Other than that. you can do great in professions that require just talent and persistence/work (you won't find MD or lawyer w/o formal background but you will find actors, chefs, photographers, designers w/o one).
Sound like a solid advised, I couldn't agree more on what you just said, it made lots of sense now, great job Mr. specialist!

Careful dude. Unless it's IT, STEM, or medical, not sure it's worth it. Elon Musk just said the other day that most jobs are going to be replaced by AI in the next 10 - 20 years. If you cannot get some other entity to pay for it, I'd pass. Consider starting a franchise, real estate, Uber, Lyft, DriverShare, etc. You also need to go to a top 20 school in the US (if you are in the States). In my opinion, it's not worth it. If the government or my previous employer didn't pay for my college, I would not had gone. The degrees these days are a dime a dozen.

degrees will open doors for you that would otherwise not be open, but that's unfortunately just another part of the blue pill mentality at work in society if you ask me. Not to mention that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs never finished college, kinda nuf said there... although Bill Gates already came from a rich family.

Universities and the requirement for degrees have turned into scams. I have a friend that got an undergrad and then got an MBA after that. After spending ****loads of money on degrees, he's still making less than 50k a year and he's pushing 40. And this is a guy who is ambitious too.

Beware of degrees. Most are useless and actually feed the machine.

A degree may get you more money at the start but the incurred debt must be weighed against the benefits.

One guy in our office is going for his masters. I asked him what it’s costing. He said he could just about buy a house.
There is no job that can make up that deficit.

Personally I would skip the degree and hire a mentor.

Well how it's going on for him from there?
He's doing pretty well. Has a part time job, and is interviewing for technical jobs as we speak. Unfortunately, it seems that the narrative that Universities push of you being hired as soon as you graduate from school is a lie lol.
