Most books, especially written back then are considered boring by today's standards. The movie is not that great either. I recommend reading an overview of her philosophy, and if you get into it, then listen to Leonard Peikoff's audio lecture titled "The Art of Thinking"

Former SOTHOROTUS Paul Ryan, and current SOTUS-KY Rand Paul consider that book to be the most important book in history that doesn't start with "In the beginning ...". There is an interesting onomastic cycle between these two and the author of the book (Ayn Rand Paul Ryan ...).
What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
