Long story short, it looks like China's cities are modernizing quickly and coming up to Western morals in many cases. If you're sticking with the cities, then any woman who works in a white collar type job is likely to have picked up a decent degree of Western morals, even if she doesn't necessarily subscribe to them herself.

I'm only really familiar with Beijing, but the clubbing scene there is drawing a lot of Chinese women who want to meet westerners. This isn't the same as back in 1980, when they wanted to get married and leave the country Instead, they're more likely to be looking for a quick lay with somebody who's not like 99% of all the guys around them so they can chalk it up to experience.

If you're there for New Year's Eve, that helps sort out the wheat from the chaff. The Chinese don't normally celebrate Jan 1, so the girls who ARE out in clubs will be there specifically to meet people who do celebrate Jan 1, i.e. foreigners.

Beware - a lot of them are likely to ask for money in return. Depending on where you are, merely being an unattached male walking in the streets will be enough to get you a LOT of invitations to strip clubs and massage parlors. Conversely, if you're looking for any sort of negotiated companionship, then make sure you don't have any females in your group (even those who are looking for similar company) because that scares the sharks away.

Unless you are fluent in Mandarin or another dialect you'll have to stick to prostitutes or the occasional student.

It'll be a lot easier if you are going over there to study. If not, hang around the universities. Everyone is eager to practice english. A certain level of english was required for the college I studied in. The one girl I "dated" was a singer at the Grand Hyatt bar, she was a student at the music college. Her english was perfect. Chinese girls have to feel "safe" with you to even look you in the eye in most cases.

I was in Beijing for about 5 weeks and the city is still pretty traditional. Shanghai is your best bet to find a short thing but they are used to whites. Don't go in expecting anything. A 6'1" white person is just a freak thing to many of the noncity people. I had people come up and ask to take pictures with me because they were from the country.
