The way to make it work with girls who act out is to not put up with their bs. When they know you will walk and not look back then they won't play those games. If they still do after you have out your foot down then they are a special kind of crazy you don't want to be with anyways.
You are literally inviting trouble in if you do this.
He was asking if there is any way to make it work. Personally i would just walk away, and next her but if he is willing to try, then he needs to put his foot down. I agree with you. It will be trouble. But he has to be prepaired to walk away.
