Canceling Plans at the Last Minute Is New Normal

The pandemic has made us more accustomed to plans falling through at the last minute. We are more comfortable moving ahead with plans when others back out.

This is not an article about ghosting and flaking in romantic interactions, though it would be applicable.

It tends to cover platonic friends ghosting and flaking each other, people ghosting and flaking on dinner plans with non-romantic contacts, and people ghosting and flaking on attending weddings and going on vacations.

If ghosting and flaking is common even amongst established friends, why should a man bother to make big plans with a stranger? It justifies the immediate home invitation date. That way, if a woman flakes on the plan, you were already just chilling out at home.

It's beyond my understanding how a man can even consider to fix a date with a woman he recently met up to 3 days in advance.

Personally I dont even drive more than 15 minutes in a same day invitation given the chances for things to go wrong despite the brief time distance.

If I have to pick the best setting is agree to meet somewhere where we already go by ourself in a certain time frame...some like "see you at x club around 12" or better yet "Im on my way to y, catch me there if you want".

Regarding non romantic interactions, it gets complicate anytime there is no common place we usually attend like the case of former school mates that live different lifes.

Yep previously idleness and a lack of mental stimulation was enough to fuel the desire for regular social interaction to curb the boredom. Nowadays... Bored? The days and hours can easily be burned through endlessly browse IG, watch netflix/ youtube, open up your overflowing DM's for some validation ( if you're female), open up pornhub if you're in heat.

Way to much **** at peoples fingertips for stimulation to care about missing out on anything so why not flake..
