I would strongly recommend anyone who has a career to set their myspace, facebook profiles to private. It's becoming a more common practice for employers to search their employee and potential employees on these sites to see if they can get insight on who they're dealing with, I know the company I work for does.

Seeing you in pictures at bars every weekend or doing dumb stuff is not the impression you want to give these people.

Stone, I just disagree. A lot of girls use pictures of themselves and their boyfriends for their portraits (the first pictures you see when you try to access their sites). I'm usually not just guessing when I determine that they're spoken for.

I've seen no difference in response rate between private and non-private. A lot of people with careers do have private profiles, I agree.

I think it makes you look better to have a lot of friends with private profiles, because it implies that those friends are not friend wh0res with 4,000 friends.

ROFL Kev07. Seriously OP this topic is ridiculous. Think of it this way if you were to simply click add and she accepted you then you could check her page to see if she has a boyfriend or not. Why the **** are you such a ***** to simply click add. So many people add random people anyway and most people simply add them back. If not simply send a message and see if you get accpeted.

As an alternative, pretend you are the boss and critique your own site from their viewpoint, changing anything that doesn't agree. Quite frankly, if it would embarress the company, chances are its embarressing to everyone else too. A personal site can be done in good taste and not be inherently embarressing to anyone. For example, why have a myspace site where you look like a punk. Businesses don't want that image because no one wants to be associated with punks anyway; including women.
